Bill Wilson's Prayer

I consider myself lucky to have grown up in a church pastored by a man named Bill Wilson. Every Sunday after have gave the message, Bill would pray this prayer as a benediction to conclude the service.

O God, please bless me and keep me
please make your face to shine upon me
and be gracious unto me

please give me grace
never to sell myself short
but grace to risk something big
for something good
and grace to remember
that the world is now too dangerous
for anything but truth, and too small
for anything but love. So God,

please take my mind
and think through it

please take my lips
and speak through them

and please take my heart
and set it on fire.

In the name of Christ we pray—
